The North Split Reconstruction Project
I-65 / I-70 Split Indianapolis, IN
Being the second busiest interchange in the state of Indiana, this upgrade significantly enhances safety and efficiency for the 214,000 daily motorists who rely on it. The scope of this project encompassed the replacement or rehabilitation of all bridges and the construction or replacement of approximately 27 lane-miles of pavement.
Patriot’s Construction Materials Testing and Inspection team played a vital role in this endeavor. They were tirelessly at work around the clock, with up to seven dedicated staff members on-site at any given time, diligently conducting material testing in strict accordance with Indiana Test Methods (ITM). The ITM procedures they carried out included:
- ITM 506: Field determination of soil moisture content
- ITM 508: Field determination of deflection using a lightweight deflectometer
- ITM 509: Field determination of strength using a Dynamic Cone Penetrometer
- ITM 512: Field determination of maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of soil
Furthermore, Patriot also offered a comprehensive range of services, including chemical, mechanical, and mineralogical analyses of the soil. This thorough analysis was instrumental in ensuring compliance with INDOT Standard Specification Section 629 – Plant Growth Layer (Revised 11-15-17).
Patriot continues to provide materials testing as the project wraps up with repairs to surface roads and sidewalks affected by construction.
