Ronald McDonald House
Cincinnati, OH
The Ronald McDonald House Charities is a phenomenal program that provides “comfort, support, and resources to families who travel far from home for the medical care their child needs.” With nearly 400 Ronald McDonald Houses in 62 countries, the program continues to grow to expand their support of families in need.
On September 12, 2018, the Cincinnati Chapter of RMHC broke ground on a 9-story tower that would be attached to the existing facility located near the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The addition would provide an additional 107 guest rooms, bring the total to 177 rooms for families.
The 73,000 sf tower has three parking levels with six residential levels above. Patriot was selected to provide geotechnical engineering services and construction materials testing and engineering services during project construction.
Geotechnical Engineering Services
Patriot completed geotechnical soil borings and used the findings to provide recommendations for a foundation that would provide the support needed for the tower crane. This was an important early task required to safely proceed with the building construction.
Construction Materials Testing & Engineering
Patriot provided continuous monitoring and testing of numerous construction materials as the project proceeded. The testing and monitoring were conducted for:
- Drilled-shaft installation observations
- Soil compaction testing for fill and backfill
- Reinforced concrete
- Post-tension concrete slabs and beams
- Structural steel
- Structural masonry
- Firestop
- Spray fireproofing
- Floor flatness and levelness testing of residential decks
The new addition opened in 2020 and has been a source of comfort and support for many families.
